Crispy baked tofu
Baked tofu is one of my favourite vegan main courses! Tofu is also an important component of vegan cooking and it would be impossible to list all the ways it can be used in cooking. On my blog you will find many vegan tofu recipes such as my Yufka dough rolls filled with spinach and tofu, or my chickpea and tofu meatballs or the delicious tofu alla cacciatora.
Why you'll love this smoked tofu recipe
Here are some reasons to try this light baked tofu:
- A breading without eggs: through the use of Kellog's cereals (cornflakes) you get crispy breaded baked tofu without eggs.
- Simple: this vegan recipe is simple and will allow you to make baked tofu through a few simple ingredients and easy steps.
- Serve with a colourful garnish: your crispy baked tofu will be great with vegetables or baked potatoes.
- Also gluten-free: if you want your breaded tofu to be gluten free, make sure you use gluten-free grains for the breadcrumbs.
Here are all the ingredients you will need for your baked tofu
- 1 block of firm tofu
- 200 g sugar-free cornflakes
- 150 ml unsweetened vegetable milk
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
- q.b dried herbs (I used bear garlic, but any herb will do)
- 1 teaspoon corn starch
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- salt & pepper to taste
- seed oil for baking
Preparation (step-by-step)
1.Turn on the oven to 200°C above and below.
2. Cut the tofu in half lengthwise to obtain two flat pieces.
3. With a clean kitchen towel or clean paper towel, press down on the tofu to remove some of the water inside.
4. Then cut the tofu into even cubes.
5. Mix milk, paprika powder, cornstarch, garlic powder, dried herbs, salt and pepper in a bowl.
6. In another dish put the cornflakes and destroy them with something flat. Otherwise put the cornflakes in a food bag, close it with the cornflakes inside and use a rolling pin to destroy them.
7. Dip the tofu cubes first in milk, then in cornflakes and then place them on a baking tray with baking paper.
8. Once all the cubes are done, sprinkle the tofu with a little seed oil. 2 tablespoons should be enough.
9. Cook your crispy tofu for 30 minutes or until it is nice and golden brown.
Pro tip
- Extra crispiness: To make your tofu super crispy, I recommend turning your cubes halfway through baking in the oven.
- Sauce: you can dip your crispy tofu in a tasty barbecue sauce or soy sauce.
Now that you have all the information you need to prepare this wonderful burgers, all you have to do is get to work. Have fun in the kitchen!

What is tofu?
Let's start with the basics-what is tofu? Tofu is a product that can have different textures and is made by processing yellow soybeans. In our recipe we will use solid bulk tofu.
It is a mainstay in Asian cuisine, but there are also African peoples who have been consuming it for centuries. It also has excellent nutritional properties as it is rich in plant protein, minerals and the absence of cholesterol.
