Tofu Cacciatore

  • 350g firm tofu
  • 300ml cherry tomato puree (or normal puree)
  • 1/2 onion cut into small cubes
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 handful olives (kalamata or taggiasche)
  • Extravirgin Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation of tofu alla cacciatora (step-by-step)

1. Cut the tofu into 0.5 cm thick slices.

2. With a clean kitchen cloth or kitchen paper, try to remove the water from the tofu by gently pressing on each slice.

3. Heat some extra virgin oil in a frying pan and put the tofu in it.

4. Brown for 5 minutes until nicely toasted and then turn each slice of tofu over and cook the other side. Add salt and pepper.

5. Once cooked, remove all the tofu slices from the pan and place them on a plate.

6. In the same pan, now add the diced onions and fry them until they become transparent.

7. Then add the cherry tomato puree and olives and leave to brown for about ten minutes.

8. Then return the tofu to the pan with the sauce, stir well, add salt if necessary and serve!
