Why you'll love these French toasts

In case the photos of these vegan French toasts aren't enough to convince you to make this recipe, here are some of the reasons why I love them so much:

  • Light - these French toast fits are easy to make and are particularly light.
  • Without milk or eggs - these French toasts are vegan and therefore contain no cow's milk but vegetable milk.
  • Quick and easy - It will be more the time you have to leave your slices of bread soaked in the mix of vegetable milk and cinnamon, than the time you have to actively make anything. This recipe is Lazy Sunday-proof!

Here are all the ingredients you'll need

The ingredients for making our eggless French toast are very simple and are easily found in any supermarket. It is possible that you may find it difficult to find the already whipped vegetable cream. In that case, I recommend that you buy one that is not whipped yet and just whipped yourself!

  • 2 thick slices of bread (approx. 4-5 cm)
  • 300 ml vegetable milk (any vegetable milk will do)
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 2-3 nuts of vegetable butter

For the toppings

  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon whipped vegetable cream
  • 1 handful frozen berries (or not)

Preparation (step-by-step)

1. Prepare the milk and cinnamon mix.

Get a wide but high-sided bowl into which you will pour the milk, cornstarch, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix everything together with a whisk. Place the two slices of bread in the milk and soak it on both sides. Then let it soak in the milk for at least 30 minutes, changing the soaked side from time to time.

2. Cook your French toast

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 2-3 nuts of butter. Once the butter is melted place your bread slices in the pan. Toast each side for 5 minutes or at least until it is nice and golden brown.

3. Decorate your French toast light and devour it

As I mentioned above, one of the reasons I love French toasts is that they're versatile and lend themselves to any topping and decoration. I used powdered sugar, vegetable whipped cream and berries. But you can also use Nutella (vegan) for your French toast, peanut butter, bananas, maple syrup and more.

For pure aesthetics I recommend that you impact your French toasts "in a tower," so one on top of the other and asymmetrically.

Storage tips

French toast does not lend itself to storage after it has been prepared and stuffed. However, if you want to speed up your process in the kitchen, you can prepare the mix with milk and cinnamon the night before and dip the bread in it only the next day.

Now that you have all the information to prepare this recipe, all you have to do is get to work. Have fun in the kitchen!
