Smoked Tofu Burger | best tofu burger
Tofu is one of the mainstays of vegan and vegetarian cuisine due to its versatility in cooking. Today we will use smoked tofu to make a smoked tofu burger tasty and easy to make. Here are all the ingredients you'll need
- 125g smoked tofu - half a tofu block cut in half lengthwise to create a tofu burger patty.
- 1 rustic seed bun - To make your tofu burger gluten free make sure you use gluten-free bread.
- 1 slice vegan cheese - you can use any sliced vegetable cheese that is now readily available in almost any supermarket.
- 1 handful of spinach
- 5 cucumber slices
- 5 carrot strips - To create the carrot strips, just use a classic potato peeler.
- 1 Tbsp. pickled red onions - Alternatively, use finely chopped raw red onions or fresh spring onions.
- q.b vegan mayonnaise - if you want to make your own vegetable mayonnaise at home, try this one vegan mayonnaise with aquafaba (liquid from canned chickpeas) or this mayonnaise made from soy milk.
Preparation (step-by-step)
1. Heat up a non-stick pan with someextravirgin olive oil and brown the tofu slice on both sides.
2. If your frying pan is large enough, put the rustic bread roll cut in half in the pan as well. Otherwise toast the bread in a separate pan.
3. Add salt and pepper to your smoked tofu and toast it for a few minutes on each side or until golden brown.
4. In the meantime, wash the vegetables and cut 5 slices of cucumber, peel the carrot and make even strips.
5. Now prepare your vegan mayo by putting all the ingredients for your mayonnaise in a jar. Find the detailed recipe for a aquafaba-based vegan mayonnaise here.
6. Once the tofu is golden brown on both sides put the cheese slice on top, add a few drops of water to the pan, turn down the heat and put the lid on. This will melt the cheese more evenly.
7. Then make up your burger by first placing the fresh spinach, cucumber, tofu with cheese, pickled red onions, carrots and mayonnaise.
8. Your burger is ready to be enjoyed. Enjoy!
