Onion ring batter

You will be surprised how simple, dare I say "trivial," the batter for onion rings is! In fact, you will only need:

  • white all purpose flour
  • Water

Put the water and flour in a bowl or deep dish. Mix with the help of a whisk until the batter is lump-free.

How to serve onion rings

These crispy rings are definitely a perfect snack for appetizers or as a midnight snack (I didn't say anything lol). Accompanied with a sauce they are of course even better! I love them with my mayonnaise that goes well with everything. Below is the recipe:

How to make extra crispy onion rings without frying

When preparing fried onion rings, it is almost natural to get a crispy result. However, if you don't want to fry them "because then it stinks up the house, because then I don't know where to dispose of the oil, because then I can't digest them," there is still another option.

To make these rings super crispy just by baking them in the oven, all you need to do is combine breadcrumbs and panko for the breadcrumbs. Panko is a breadcrumb that is typically used in Japanese cuisine. You have probably already tasted it in tempura.
