Equipment

  • 1 heat-resistant glass jar

Ingredients

Ingredients to put in the jar

  • 50 g Chinese chilli powder
  • 3 cloves garlic squeezed or finely chopped
  • 3 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp fresh peeled ginger finely chopped
  • 3 tsp salt

Ingredients for oil flavouring

  • 300 ml sunflower oil
  • 2 star anice
  • 3 bay leafs
  • ½ onion cut into wedges

Instructions

  • Put the sunflower oil and all the 'oil-flavouring' ingredients (star anise, bay leaves, and ½ onion) in a saucepan and turn the heat up to maximum.
  • 2. Let it sizzle for approx. 10 minutes or until the onion segments have browned at the edges.
  • 3. Now remove everything from the oil with the help of a strain skimmer.
  • 4. Meanwhile, put all the other ingredients in the jar (Chinese chilli powder, crushed garlic, sesame seeds, fresh ginger and salt).
  • 5. Pour the boiling oil into the jar and let the oil sizzle all the ingredients.
  • 6. Stir with a spoon and let your hot oil cool.
  • 7. Once the oil has cooled down. Close with a lid and store in the fridge.
